The discussion originated a few days ago in -mobile about some problems
with the Dell Inspiron fan reminded me of an old question about APM and
idle cycles: why is apm_cpu_idle() not used at all in the kernel? I have
just checked NetBSD and OpenBSD's sys/arch/i386/i386/locore.s and both
cousins have calls to apm_cpu_idle() and apm_cpu_busy(). Could this be
related to SMP support or something? I revised the CVS history of our
locore.s and, although some time ago it did the APM initialization,
I didn't find any references to apm_cpu_{idle,busy}(). This is a matter
of curiosity, so any explanation will be very welcome :-)
