We have done the same things.  I have not only removed all of my ports
but I have also cleaned up all the crap left in /usr/X11R6 and /usr/local
before rebuilding everything.

My -CURRENT is a few hours older as its Feb 3 Australian time which
may have been Feb 2 for you.
