It is an Athlon board with the VIA chipset. Here is a section of my boot messages: uhub1: VIA UHCI root hub, class 9/0, rev 1.00/1.00, addr 1 uhub1: 2 ports with 2 removable, self powered pcm0: port 0xb000-0xb003,0xb400-0xb403,0xb800-0xb8ff irq 5 at device 4.5 on pci0 vr0: port 0xa400-0xa47f mem 0xdf800000-0xdf80007f irq 10 at device 11.0 on pci0 vr0: Ethernet address: 00:80:c8:f7:e2:30 I added the device pcm line to my kernel config to get it to even mention the AC97. However I must have screwed something up, because I don't have a /dev/pcm0 nor a /dev/sndstat . I have been reading about the problems with the AC97 chip in the discussions on freebsd.org, but I have never seen anyone with a missing pcm0 or sndstat device. Hopefully I simply missed a step during install and you can point me in the right direction. thanks for your help.
