This suggested the problem was elsewhere, and I have discovered that the SMP kernel seems to be causing the crashes. Without the SMP kernel large file copies behave normally; with it, crash. I have not tired turning off oplocks or the 2.06pre2, but will try that next. There are no errors in any of the logs, other than on the NT SP5 client.
