Dos for all it's other faults is quite handy. It boots up quickly, usually under 30 seconds or so. There are a ton of handy little utilites that all run quickly, usually off a floppy disk that are good for diagnostics and hardware configuration. It's simply a case of the best tool for the job. As a hardware tech I have little interest in waiting 5 minutes for FreeBSD to boot so that I can change one little setting that I'm not sure will even fix the real problem. Doubly so when it's sitting in front of a customer's computer at an hourly rate.
