The rawhide maintainer has looked into it, but he doesn't know what
the problem is.  I would not expect a fix any time soon.

Yes, I think you can install over the drive.

Another option might be netbooting the install kernel from that
floppy.   That process is not documented and is very time consuming to
explain.

FreeBSD 5.0 does not boot reliably on rawhide & hasn't since SMPng hit
the tree.  The problem has apparently been tracked down and should be
fixed shortly.
