Then the port should be changed, right now /usr/ports/net/samba gives branch
2.0.x and /usr/ports/net/samba-devel gives branch 2.2.x

On a side note, has anyone experienced problems with samba 2.2.1a_2 with
FBSD 4.4 (Releng_4_4)
