When I start KDE I get the error message about /dev/dsp. I haven't worried about that yet. Jesse Guardiani wrote that he had his working correctly. All of the modules he suggested are already installed. When I 'kldload snd_ich' it returns 'Can't load: File exists.' yet it does not show on 'kldstat' as here: bash-2.05b$ kldstat Id Refs Address Size Name 1 7 0xc0100000 5f2798 kernel 2 1 0xc06f3000 4a30c acpi.ko 3 1 0xc4594000 18000 linux.ko I haven't tried cdcontrol. Since 'dmesg| grep pcm' returns nothing, I figure no sound is running. FreeBSD does not require MAKEDEV anymore, correct? > > ----- Original Message ----- > > From: "Gary Schenk" > > To: > > Sent: Monday, November 03, 2003 5:43 PM > > Subject: AC97 sound support > > > >>I've just installed 5.1 -RELEASE on my new machine, a HP a350n. > >> For sound this computer uses onboard RealTek AC97 Audio. > >> > >>I went throught the normal installation steps, then ran the steps > >> for soundcard configuration in the manual.
