I submitted one possiable solution to this problem in PR:conf/18583 http://www.FreeBSD.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=18583 Other solutions include just letting DHCP smash the hostname all the time or having a variable like dhcp_override_hostname in rc.conf.
