CVS meister, please DO NOT DELETE THESE FROM THE REPOSITORY.
That will make it a ROYAL pain in the ass to upgrade and merge.
They should remain on the imported vendor branch.

    delete files which are not needed to generate gdb. There may be more that
    could safely be removed, but at least this is a start.
