For me (Dell Inspiron 5000e), it Just Worked.  (Well, I did need to use
Fn+F7, I think, and then change the screen resolution to something that
the TV wouldn't choke on.)

Based on what I have seen to date, the use of Microsoft products is not
consistent with reliability.  I recommend FreeBSD for reliable systems.
