Having never done this personally I can't speak from experience but my guess is a 90% certainty that this is no harder in FreeBSD. > How is the Desktop in FReeBSD. It's the only OS I use - it works great for me. I can do all the work I need on my machines. > Could I realistically use it for my home workstation? Part of this depends on what you want to do with it. That said, most Linux applications (if the same doesn't exist for FreeBSD natively) will run fine on FreeBSD. > Will things like WP8 run on freebsd? WP8 runs fine on FreeBSD - there's even a port. If you don't know about the ports/package system read the manual or try checking: http://www.freebsd.org/ports/ Give it a shot - I personally think the ports/package system is vastly superior to rpm. I have not tried Debian's package system which I've heard is good.
