Another reason to keep this feature then. And what if your installation is broken in such a way that you cannot run freebsd-update? Yeah, there is the fixit console and the live system but what if I just want to overwrite my system with the binaries of the installation media without mocking with manual repair? There's no other way to do so, so this feature is still useful.
