That's assuming that he has SAMBA configured for security=user. He may have it setup per share, or domain, or something else. We don't have enough information to actually troubleshoot his problem. The 1st question is, does the samba server show up in Network neighborhood? If not... 1. Can the computers communicate in general? Can they ping each other? 2. Are they in the same workgroup? Verify that the workgroup in smb.conf and in control panel | networking | identification, are the same. 3. Are they on the same subnet? 4. What is the subnet mask? You may want to specify it on the interfaces= line in the smb.conf. E.g. interfaces=10.0.0.1/255.255.255.0 (of course fill in your information here). To answer broderick's original question, there is ALOT of information on setting up and troubleshooting samba, that comes with samba. Take a look in /usr/share/doc/samba/.
