There are no differences. Walnut Creek is the "official" distribution,
and barring some copyrighted documentation, other sites are the same.

The licensing is all the same. (again, barring some documentation).

There is no shareware version.  FreeBSD is /freeware/.  Donations
are accepted by freebsd.org, see the web page for more info.

Freebsd.org gets a cut of walnut creek cdrom sales, one reason
it deserves patronage.

I once shelled out (other people's money) US$10,000 for a commercial
operating system (VAX/VMS 4) without source code or compilers. FreeBSD is a
/deal/.
