I now know what exactly happened with an acer 5745 > on which i gave up . would be nice to add these details in bsd > laptop compatibility list > > http://laptop.bsdgroup.de/freebsd/ > Hi, this is already on my todo list. I'll add an entry as soon as I have worked out the kinks. I had to build a custom kernel yesterday in order to get access to wifi and sound. I still don't see Bluetooth, the card reader, and the webcam, but I have never had any need for one of these. Although I removed from the config everything that seemed unnecessary to me, installing the new kernel almost completely filled the / partition (107%!). The kernel works ok though, so I'm almost set. I'll just have to redo the installation and increase the size of /. It's a bit strange because I used here whatever the installer suggested (I only increased /tmp as I had run out of space here on another box), so even if your HDD is 500 GB, the default is way too small. Would that qualify as a bug report? In any case, I'll make sure to have the kernel config, /boot/loader.conf, /etc/rc.conf, and /etc/X11/xorg.conf (unless Xorg works automagically) handy before publishing the entry in the laptop compatibility list. With a bit of luck I'll be done this weekend. regards, Markus -- Markus Hoenicka http://www.mhoenicka.de AQ score 38
