FYI, I suspect Brian already 'added' it back, it just didn't come back
from the Attic (it doesn't need to).

Your second 'cvs add' probably confused CVS (this is a bug) and your
CVS/* files got messed up.

I suspect that if you had blown away the directory and updated again, it
would be correct, and the modifications could have been done.
