Make sure that you've used the EISA Configuration Utility (ECU) for the machine to define the ISA card in the appropriate slot. Use the 3Com utilities to make the card match the ECU settings. I seem to recall a recommendation to use whatever card setting went with "9600baud modem" - not having one of these cards I can't be more specific than to suggest searching the mailing list archives for this.
