Here's what I use for csh:
alias cd 'cd \!*;set prompt="`hostname`:`pwd`{!}% "'
which gives:
gppsun4:/users2/radan{8}%
The number in ``{}'' being the command number in the history list.
You will need to add ``cd'' at the end of your .cshrc file to get the
prompt as soon as you start a new shell.
