Now, without starting the thread again, I can understand why people are not quite eager to use 'ed', but if it only is used to recover from some simple mistake in /etc/fstab, why not use /stand/ee or the fixit floppy? And, as it has been said by many other in this thread, where do you want to draw the line? At /bin/sh? At /bin/vi? At /usr/local/bin/emacs?
