I also jumped through the hoops of putting the pieces of LyX together, but the babel business stymied me. Since I am a complete newbie with TeX, I had no idea what to do next - so I copied one of the other .sty files as 'babel.sty' and it works, sort of. Since reading this e-mail, I have found CTAN, and downloaded something called 'babel' - but it's full of '.dtx' files and the installation instructions aren't very helpful. Have I got the right thing? What do I do with it now? TIA John -- Beavis and Butt-Head; Vladimir and Estragon for the '90s. finger jbrann@panix.com for pgp public key
