Sorry, but cp /is/ in that block of code: cp -pr $(srcdir)/inst/po/* $(top_builddir)/library/$(pkg)/po; The 'cp' command is calling the 'chmod' syscall, as instructed by the -p option, to preserve the modes of the source files.
