I supped the -stable tree yesterday afternoon and did a 'make world' last 
night.  I then went to recompile my kernel.  In the process, I made the 
appropriate adjustments to the ahc line to make it work with -stable (as 
per earlier postings here) and added the iBCS2 and Linuc compatibility 
options.   The compile went fine and the machine booted fine with the new 
kernel.  However, when the machine tried to establish it's ppp link via 
pppd (something that's never been a problem before) it would dial in OK 
and would appear to start establishing the links (it even made the 
appropriate routing table entries) and then the connection would drop.  
The following is from /var/log/messages:

When I rebooted with my -RELEASE kernel it connected fine.  

As a side note, even with the -RELEASE kernel sometimes it'll start to 
connect and then give the following message:

May 23 07:14:29 prozac pppd[4686]: ioctl(TIOCSCTTY): Operation not permitted
May 23 07:15:19 prozac pppd[4667]: could not set up connection

and then it would drop carrier.


Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
