It's not that I think your hardware is defective. I'm wondering if differences in the disk driver code and differences in the I/O completion order might be the reason that you are seeing problems but I am not. There also may be code modifications that were committed at about the same time as the compiler upgrade that are causing the problems that you are seeing. A binary search between a version of the source that was working for you and a version that exhibits these errors would probably be informative, but that would be a fairly major undertaking.
