I talked with them at length last spring.  The jist of the problem for what I could figure out was that they did the DVD auth
and decrypt in software.  Thus the em8300 just took in a raw MPEG stream.

So a sugesstion would be to ask them for the specs to only support MPEG 1 and 2 streams.  Don't even mention the DVD stuff.  Then look at using the css-auth for the Linux folks to get the MPEG 2 stream from the DVD drive.  They are not will and even able to tell you how to do the DVD access because of the stupid (IMHO) DVD Consortium policy of security through secrecy.

I am willing to work on this with other people.  I am working on a Linux project at the moment but I can find some time if this means I can finally get Windows out of my house.
