        FWIW it doesn't work with my setup either, I've had to back out this
change to insertion/removal events noticed. Relevant controller info from boot
messages:

PC-Card VLSI 82C146 (5 mem & 2 I/O windows)
pcic: controller irq 9

        Is there a better way to achieve this than hacking the source.
