I worked with one of the kernel devs and turns out that the cause of those crashes was due to memory corruption happening in my hardware. I later traced this to D-link WiFi PCI card that I installed which randomly weas corrupting the data. The timing of 3am was due to cron starting all of= the daily scanning jobs so that resulted in a lot of disk activity and higher chance for data corruption. After I removed the card, the issues stopped happening.
