I use a plain windowmaker-based setup with 3-4 virtual desktops, lots of xterms open, a browser with several tabs and a couple of other tools (gaim, for example). The windowmaker theme has been stripped of most window decorations, except for a thin window border, and I navigate around the desktop with ALT+mouse or the keyboard.
