You've got that the wrong way around. Until you point something like X at /dev/sysmouse you're not going to get any moused output anywhere useful. Start moused for /dev/psm0. I use; moused_enable="YES" moused_type="auto" moused_port="/dev/psm0" moused_flags="-3 -C 300 -I /var/run/moused.psm0" Then change the mouse device in XF86Config to /dev/sysmouse. _Then_ plug in your USB device.
