Only somewhat related. I built a snapshot of 8.0-CURRENT myself on 
10.07.2008.

and was able to install my MacBook Pro (using an external keyboard) and 
did not see any problems. So perhaps there is just something wrong with 
the files on the server you downloaded them from...

I was not able to investigate the keyboard part any further yet :-(
