(Yes, some(?) of the mailing lists are dumped to the Usenet.) Just create a search filter with groups set to *freebsd*. There is a view thread option at the top of every article returned. If you haven't used Dejanews yet, I promise you will like it. Or if ya really want to, you can ftp the archives off of ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/mailing-lists/archive/. But that would be kinda verbose.
