We use Symbol LS-9100 scanners with our POS program running on FreeBSD.
This is a nice, "alert" scanner. I love it. But, in our situation, the scanner
config that we use, the scanner sits between the keyboard and and a dumb terminal
out on the sales counters.

You can program the LS-9100 till the cows come home. It's a pretty
flexiable scanner for a lot of diffrent environments. It is approx. $600.00
which includes a $60.00 Wyse60 serial cable interface. So if you don't need
the serial cable, you should be able to get it for less.

We've used 2 different Metrologic scanners before, and both were junk
for depending on them. I'd recommend using Symbol scanners.

       Hope this helps.
          Roger
