We might be able to get away with temporarily replacing the i386/include/atomic.h[1] with the one from -stable and using gcc 2.7. At some stage, we need to confirm that a -current kernel will work with a -stable world - or add the incompatible bits to the list of things to build first. >The current Makefile.upgrade would have to be massively gutted and >rewritten since it deals with the aout -> elf transition, but it >shouldn't be too horrible. At least, no more horrible than the aout->elf procedure :-). >I think that we need to do this upgrade proceedure. I wish I had more >time than to just sketch out this outline... I think that a suitable upgrade procedure should have been thought through and implemented before the changes were committed. It would also have been nice to have a CVS tag. It's a bit late now though. [1] It's just occurred to me that the solution for atomic.h is to make the asm constraints dependent on the gcc version. Anyone willing to commit a change if I submit patches?
