The submitter confirmed that my patch in PR/20951 indeed also fixes the problem he reported for 3.5. (Thanks for checking, James!) Thus my patches in PR/20951 are known to work fine on at least 3.5 and 4.1 and they should be installed ASAP, regardless of possible problems with -CURRENT (which also was broken before these patches according to bento).
