Why is smartmontools looking at it? It actually looks behind it, as per the -d cciss,0(1) option (see smartd.conf(4)), and it reports actually well on the s.m.a.r.t. status of the disks, like this: % sudo smartctl -a -d cciss,0 /dev/ciss0 ~ smartctl version 5.37 [amd64-portbld-freebsd6.2] Copyright (C) 2002-6 Bruce Allen Home page is http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net/ Device: COMPAQ BD0186349B Version: 3B15 Serial number: 3BT1B7S700002109YA33 Device type: disk Local Time is: Sun May 20 17:39:16 2007 CEST Device supports SMART and is Enabled Temperature Warning Enabled SMART Health Status: OK Current Drive Temperature: 23 C Drive Trip Temperature: 65 C Elements in grown defect list: 0 Vendor (Seagate) cache information Blocks sent to initiator = 1625138088 Blocks received from initiator = 1251775924 Blocks read from cache and sent to initiator = 444359024 Number of read and write commands whose size <= segment size = 155560323 Number of read and write commands whose size > segment size = 257849242 Vendor (Seagate/Hitachi) factory information number of hours powered up = 29399.90 number of minutes until next internal SMART test = 70 et cetera ____________________________________________________________________________________ Moody friends.
