The setup of the screen is in /etc/XF86Config. There was a doc on the web, named 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to XFree86 Video Timings', by Eric S. Raymond . It is no longer in the orig. place. Search the web for video-modes.html. Someone must have it. This doc explains how to set the video timing for monitors. Look on www.xfree86.org.
