Funny, on my machine it's:
/stand/sysinstall: FreeBSD/i386 compact demand paged executable

Maybe your copy is shot ?

Once you have FreeBSD running you don't really need sysinstall.
There are other ways of accomplishing pretty much everything. Just
what are you trying to do ?
