After working with some users on the gnome-session SEGFAULT issue, we found the problem. The stack traces pointed to a fonts problem, so I suggested to delete all font directories in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts, then reinstall all the XFree86 font ports. Joe Kelsey just reported: "I reinstalled the fonts and everything worked. For some reason, the upgrade from X4.1 to X4.2 neglected to upgrade the fonts..." So, if you've upgraded from XFree86 4.1.x to 4.2.0, and you're seeing segfaults when starting gnome-session (and probably any other GNOME 2 app), please remove your font dirs (system font dirs, that is), then reinstall: XFree86-font100dpi-4.2.0 XFree86-4 bitmap 100 dpi fonts XFree86-font75dpi-4.2.0 XFree86-4 bitmap 75 dpi fonts XFree86-fontCyrillic-4.2.0 XFree86-4 Cyrillic Fonts XFree86-fontDefaultBitmaps-4.2.0 XFree86-4 default bitmap fonts XFree86-fontEncodings-4.2.0 XFree86-4 font encoding files XFree86-fontScalable-4.2.0 XFree86-4 Scalable font files The font dirs in question are: 100dpi 75dpi CID PEX Speedo TTF Type1 cyrillic encodings misc This should solve your problem. Thanks goes to Juan Salaverria and Joe Kelsey for helping to track this down. Joe To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-gnome" in the body of the message
