One thing you can do is create meta-packages (or meta-ports) that just depend on all the necessary components. You pkg_add the meta-package, which adds all the other packages by depending on them, and then runs a (some) script(s) to finish configuring the system as needed. Along with some relatively clear instructions, this could be a great resource. Packaged in book form, with a CD-ROM of the meta-packages, it might convince some people FreeBSD is easier to configured than Linux. -- "Where am I, and what am I doing in this handbasket?"
