Subject: What does this mean: cpio: /dev/tty: Device not configured

We use cpio-based backup to tape. It has worked very good for a long
time but recently we get failures a couple of days per week because of
"cpio: /dev/tty: Device not configured".

I don't understand what it means, why is /dev/tty involved when the
backup is made to /dev/rst0? The cpio command is "cpio -oB -H newc".

Thanks for your time!
