I can only assume that there is some sort of interrupt clash between your SCSI III controler and the PS 2 mouse. The output from dmesg on a machine with the problem might help. Also, are you really installing FreeBSD 4.2? I have a vague feeling some interrupt code may have been improved since then, so it may be worth trying 4.6.
