Bill, >Anyone ever talk with RealNetworks? This was my conversation with them: I downloaded what I thought was going to be the RA player 5.0 for FreeBSD but when I gunziped it, it was 3.0 which doesn't work for +sites with newer servers. What's the deal? I need a player that works on FreeBSD 2.2.7. ----------- Hello, That is the latest version available for your Os. Sincerely, Todd Courson Service Representative Real Networks ------------ You replied on Tue, September 22, 1998 with: ------------------------------------ Then why does the web page say it is 5.0? ----------- Todd, RealNetworks Customer Service wrote: ---------------------------------------------------------- Hi, It automatically gives you the latest version you can use - this method is +easier than listing every single version we have ever made and which OS's are +compatible with which versions etc. I am sorry, but that is the latest version +available for your OS. Thanks, Todd And this from their KB: What UNIX platforms support RealPlayer 5.0? RealPlayer has been compiled to work on a number of different UNIX flavors. A listing of the supported platforms is as follows: Linux -a.out Linux -ELF Red Hat Unix 5.0 Solaris 2.4 Sparc Solaris 2.5/2.6 Sparc Solaris 2.5/2.6 x86 SunOS 4.1.x Irix 5.3 Irix 6.2/6.3 Unix flavors that support Player version 3.0 only. FreeBSD (Static Link) FreeBSD (Dynamic Link) Versions of RealPlayer for operating systems missing from the list above are not currently available. RealNetworks will continue to monitor the demand for platforms not shown. However, it is unknown when or if Players will be created for flavors not seen here. I guess we need to create more demand!!!
