I have tweaked things so that we can do mode 750 stuff on directories (or 751) on ftp-master and it should get replicated properly to the mirrors. That would enable mirroring before setting the bits to readable to all depending on the remote ftp setup. cvsupd, rsyncd and ftpd can now read gid 'archive' on ftp-master. This isn't ideal but should be a workable stopgap.
