You can work it out based on release info as well.
NetBSD 1.6 was released in 2002 according to
http://www.netbsd.org/releases/formal.html#history
FreeBSD 5.3 was released in 2004 according to
https://www.freebsd.org/releases/5.3R/announce.html

What that's trying to say is Solaris had these tools called pkill & pgrep.
NetBSD made their own version of them which shipped in v1.6 and FreeBSD
subsequently imported it for inclusion with v5.3.
