This pretty much depends on your usage though. If you are doing lots of random seeks and few sustained transfers, then you can run many more disks than four or five. Assuming large sustained transfers, assume one drive less than the bandwidth would suggest you can to avoid bus saturation. This is my rule of thumb, and I'm sure others will give you theirs.
