Otherwise, the network doesn't care which machine is the server and which are the clients. You need to make sure that the cables match on both ends. The configuration I use for 10Base-T CAT 5 cabling is: (Cable to the right, clip of RJ-45 plug down) Top White Blue Blue White Orange White Brown Brown Orange White Green Green Bottom Note: It is the pairs of wires, and not the colors that matter. Pairs are: 1-2 3-6 4-5 7-8. Do you have access to a cable test kit? That would help.
