I'd also recommend upgrading all the firmware on the L440GX mainboard (BIOS, BMC, HSC and FRU/SDR). The order of installation is important - CMOS clear, then BMC, then HSC, then BIOS, then FRU/SDR, then CMOS clear. The firmware upgrade will get you a SCSI BIOS of 2.57 from memory. I had boot issues with ASUS P2B-S attached to an IFT-3102 - I had to enable interrupts for USB to boot successfully. Might be worth checking.
