Take a close look at the source for mptable.  It is poorly written and
makes a lot of assumptions as to the placement of the various structures
in the mp table.  If the kernel doesn't complain about the MP table,
then you should be fine.  However, I recently discovered that even the
kernel does not validate the checksum of the MP table - it just uses
what it finds.
