KR> RELEASE is code meant to be run on production computers.
KR> STABLE is code that is continually being updated and is prone to bugs.

Actually, -RELEASE is a snapshot of a particular RELENG branch at a
particular moment in time. RELENG_4 (the 4th RELease ENGineer) is the
branch from which all the 4.x-whatever comes from. -STABLE is simply
another word for referring to RELENG_4, i.e. upon the release of
4.3-RELEASE, RELENG_4 became known as 4.3-STABLE.

The real answer to this is that -RELEASE is a snapshot of a branch at a
particular branch at a particular point in time whereas -STABLE is the
continuation of that branch. -STABLE is no more buggy than -RELEASE
because anything which is MFC'd into -STABLE is thoroughly tested first
and, in fact, may well be less buggy because any bugs discovered are fixed
whereas -RELEASE, being a static point on a branch, doesn't
change.

-CURRENT is the buggy branch and, as such, can occasionally be counted on
to do Very Bad Things (tm) like wiping the superblock of an HD.
