One possible fix is the patch below, which substitutes ftp.funet.fi for our very own ftp.cdrom.com (which appears to have an up-to-date mirror of metalab.unc.edu) It's possibly worth adding in a few more mirror sites, especially for those on the other side of the pond to reduce trans-atlantic (and, indeed, trans-pacific) traffic, but I have no idea what would be 'good' sites to use in this case.
